Neil Hart, Preservation Coordinator: 

 • Landmark designations for Washington Square Park and the McCormick House, will be heard before the Board of Supervisors Committee, Tuesday, 11/23/99.

• Landmark designation of the Madame C. J. Walker House as Landmark No. 211 was signed by Mayor Brown on 11/12/99.

• Updated Board on Oak Street Firehouse and the Geneva Car Barn.

• 435 Pacific Avenue is scheduled to be heard before the Planning Commission on December 2.

August 4 - Continued to next hearing - no quorum.

September 15 - Member Magrane (seconded by Ho-Belli) moved to approve. Vote was unanimous (Dearman, Finwall, Ho-Belli, Kotas, Magrane, Reidy and Shatara) (Absent: Kelley and Levitt).

October 6 - Member Kotas (seconded by Magrane) moved to approve. Vote was unanimous (Dearman, Finwall, Ho-Belli, Kotas, Magrane, Reidy and Shatara) (Absent: Kelley and Levitt).

 

Consideration of Appeal of the Planning Commission’s Disapproval

 

5. 1999.365L (LIGHT)

2750 SLOAT BOULEVARD, The Doggie Diner Sign, Assessor’s Block 2514, Lots 2A and 4. Consideration by the Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board of whether to appeal to the Board of Supervisors, the Planning Commission’s disapproval of the designation of the Doggie Diner Sign as San Francisco Landmark No. 212.

Board Comments and Actions: 

• After public comment and Board discussion, Member Dearman (seconded by Magrane) made a motion to appeal to the Board of Supervisors, the Planning Commission’s disapproval of designating the Doggie Diner Sign as San Francisco Landmark No. 212. The appeal is to include a letter (drafted by President Reidy) discussing the sign remaining on the site, but not honoring the building. The vote was unanimous (Dearman, Finwall, Ho-Belli, Kotas, Magrane, Reidy and Shatara) (Absent: Kelley and Levitt).

FERRY BUILDING REHABILITATION PROJECT, The Embarcadero at the foot of Market Street, a portion of Assessor’s Block 9900. The subject property is designated Landmark No. 90. Informational presentation on a proposal for rehabilitation and adaptive reuse.

Comments: The general impression was that the project was very positive. However, they would like a tour of the project to look at critical areas.

A two-story, four-unit, wooden San Francisco Stick Victorian apartment building in the Alamo Square Historic District. The subject property is zoned RH-3 (House, Three-Family) District and is in a 50-X Height and Bulk District. Request for Certificate of Appropriateness to replace inkind a fire damaged front stairway and windows.

 

Board Actions: Board Member Finwall moved to accept Staff’s Recommendation to approve Certificate of Appropriateness.

126 27TH AVENUE, The Alfred G. Hanson Residence, east side between Lake Street and Camino Del Mar. Assessor’s Block 1332, Lot 49. The subject property is designated Landmark No. 196, zoned RH-1 (House, One-Family) District and is in a 40-X Height and Bulk District. Request for Certificate of Appropriateness to construct 34.5 square foot kitchen addition and new rear yard deck. Renovations include removal of non-original kitchen window, new fenestration for kitchen on northern facade and a new stove pipe for fireplace on existing addition.
