MEMBERS ABSENT: PRESIDENT REIDY AND MEMBERS DEARMAN AND KOTAS

CIVIC CENTER FIELD TRIP (MR. JIM HAAS, CHAIRMAN, CIVIC CENTER PRIDE)

At 1:00 p.m. the Board and interested members of the public met at the northwest corner of Hyde and Fulton Street (the Old Main Library) for a briefing on the history and development of the Civic Center. The Board took no action at the special meeting Field Trip.

SPEAKERS: Mr. Jim Haas, Chairman, Civic Center Pride, conducted a tour of significant areas in the Civic Center including the United Nations Plaza, 7th and Market Streets, the History Room of the New Main Library, and the Pioneer Monument and spoke of the evolution of the Civic Center from the 1906 earthquake and fire to the present day.

PUBLIC COMMENT

SPEAKERS: Michael Levin, member of the public, thanks the Planning Department staff for the Civic Center field trip.

Reported on the deteriorating condition of Lotta's Fountain. Recommends that the Landmarks Board influence the Planning Department to take part in restoration of the fountain.

Coordinator: Requested Landmarks Board members to submit R?sum?s, CPF 36 forms, and a list of training/conferences attended for the period of January through December 1997 for the Certified Local Government Report, and Statement of Economic Interests Form 700 for 1997 through 1998 to the Recording Secretary. All documents should be submitted by the March 18, 1998 due date.

Reported on an improvement to the Notice of Determination of Minor Alteration form letter that will include a paragraph describing the work proposed.

Recommended to Michael Levin, member of the public, that he contact the Recreation and Park Department or the Friends of Lotta's Fountain regarding the condition of Lotta's Fountain.

Member Becerril: Requested a status report on a public comment report made by a member of the public at the January 4, 1998 Board hearing requesting improved disabled wheelchair accessibility in the aisles of 101 Grove Street, Third Floor Auditorium.

Requested that the Secretary of the Interior's Regulations and Articles 10 and 11 be available at each Board hearing.

Member Finwall: Re. criteria for distinguishing between minor or major alterations for the Notice of Determination of Minor Alteration letters and who to contact.

Review and Consider adoption of a draft Landmark designation report, hold a public hearing, and consider action to initiate Landmark designation of the property. (Continued from the January 21, 1998 Meeting.)

SPEAKERS: Steven Vettel, Attorney-at-Law, representing the Community Center Project, re. request for continuance of landmark initiation to April 1998 in order for the representatives of the Community Center Project to present a revised feasibility study to their Executive Committee.

ACTION: Approve continuance of landmark initiation to the April 15, 1998 meeting. (Moved by Member Magrane.)
