NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Special Meeting of the San Francisco Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board for Wednesday, February 3, 1999, has been canceled. The next Special Meeting of the Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 1999.

AT THE NEXT HEARING ON FEBRUARY 17, 1999, THE LANDMARKS BOARD WILL CONSIDER AN AMENDMENT OF THE LANDMARKS PRESERVATION ADVISORY BOARD RULES AND REGULATIONS as noted below:



Amend Article IV - Committees, Section 1, increase the number of members of the Architectural Review Committee from four to five.



Amend Article V - Meetings, Section 1, first paragraph of the Landmarks Board Rules to change the time and address references where Regular Meetings are held from Public Health Building, 101 Grove Street, Third Floor Auditorium to in the afternoon at City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, Room 400.



Amend Article V - Meetings, Section 6. Voting, to clarify that approval of any matter shall be by majority vote of the members of the Landmarks Board.

144-146 TOWNSEND STREET, THE CLINTON CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, north side of Townsend Street between Clarence Place and Stanford Street. Assessor's Block 3788, Lot 9A. The three-story, stucco warehouse/ storage building was built in 1922, and was originally used as a wholesale wire facility. The building has been determined eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places, and is a Contributory building to the South End Historic District. The subject property is zoned SSO (Service/Secondary Office) District and is in a 40-X Height and Bulk District. Request for Architectural Review Committee comments on a proposal for window replacement at the existing openings, including: replacement of original steel sash with aluminum sash, and conversion of original true divided lights from twelve-over-twelve to six-over-six. 2. 1997.674A (KOMETANI)

945 BATTERY STREET, southwest corner of Battery and Green Streets. Assessor's Block 135, Lot 1. A Contributory, three-story brick building, built in 1903, originally a warehouse, proposed for office use in the Northeast Waterfront Historic District. The subject property is zoned C-2 (Community Business) District and is in a 65-X Height and Bulk District. Request for Architectural Review Committee comment on a proposal to enclose existing wood loading dock doors with glazing and install a new entrance into existing ground floor opening.

PUBLIC COMMENT



At this time, members of the public may address the Landmarks Board on items of interest to the public that are within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Landmarks Board except agenda items. With respect to agenda items, your opportunity to address the Landmarks Board will be afforded when the item has already been reviewed in a public hearing at which members of the public were allowed to testify and the Landmarks Board has closed the public hearing. Your opportunity to address the Landmarks Board must be exercised during the Public Comment portion of the calendar. Each member of the public may address the Landmarks Board for up to three minutes. If it is demonstrated that comments by the public will exceed 15 minutes, the President or chairperson may continue Public Comment to another time during the meeting.



The Brown Act forbids a commission or board from taking action or discussing any item not appearing on the posted agenda, including those items raised at public comment. In response to public comment, the Board is limited to: (1) briefly responding to statements made or questions posed by members of the public, or (2) requesting staff to report back on a matter at a subsequent meeting, or (3) directing staff to place the item on a future agenda. (Government Code Section 54954.2(a).)

The subject property is individually designated Landmark No. 97, is zoned RH-2 (House, Two-Family) District and is in a 40-X Height and Bulk District. Request for a Certificate of Appropriateness authorization for proposed exterior alterations, including, repair and replace foundations, cutting through the retaining wall to construct a new below grade garage, repair and replacement of deteriorated architectural elements, and construction of a new 80 square feet addition at ground floor.

The closest accessible BART Station is the Civic Center Station located at the intersection of Market, Hyde and Grove Streets. Accessible curb side parking has been designated at points along McAllister Street. Accessible MUNI Lines serving City Hall are the 42 Downtown Loop, 9 San Bruno and 71 Haight/Noriega and the F Line. Accessible MUNI Metro Lines are the J, K, L, M, and N which stop at the Civic Center and Van Ness Avenue Stations. For more information regarding MUNI accessible services, call (415) 923-6142.
