41 FEDERAL STREET, south side west of Delancey Street, Block 3774, Lot 015 - Request for the Architectural Review Committee review and comment on a proposal to modify the design of a previously approved live/work project that has not completed construction. The property is improved with an auto ramp for the parking at 250 Brannan Street. The property is a non-contributor to the South End Historic District. It is within the SSO (Service Secondary Office) District and a 50-X Height and Bulk District.

The Board Members have no problems with the design. They questioned the material to be used for the ground floor garage door.

PUBLIC COMMENT
Barbara Austin: The Coronet Theater is listed as an endangered single screen theater. She is requesting support from the Landmark Board in saving the Coronet Theater.
Libby Benedict: She provided history on the Coronet Theater. She stated that Carey and Company report has many discrepancies. She requested to preserve the Coronet Theater from closure.
Rocky Papale: He stated that he is angry because the new owner wants to destroy an historic theater. The Coronet Theater should have landmark status.
Joe Butler: He provided the Board with copies of 212 Union Street. He has concerns with 39 Chattanooga, 1338 Filbert and 17 Alta Streets.
President Kelley requested that staff investigate the situation regarding the Coronet Theater EIR and report back at the next meeting as to whether the Coronet Theater should be considered a historic resource.

Thanked Director Macris for his efforts to assist the LPAB. The Board is pleased to hear the coordination efforts between departments.

i He welcomed back Board Member Kotas from his leave and welcomed newly appointed Board Member Chan. He wished Commissioner Frank Lee well on his newly appointed position.
i He provided an update on transitions with the Planning Department.
i The mandatory Ethics Training will be on Monday, March 7th from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m.
i The Planning Commission will hear 1888 Mission Street – Port of North Mission Survey - on February 17th.

- : Letter re: Planning Commission hearing on EIR for 1234 Howard Street. The Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board will consider writing a letter to the Planning Commission regarding the historical resources analysis contained in the EIR for 1234 Howard Street so that such a letter may be provided to the Planning Commission in advance of its February 24th hearing on the certification of the EIR for 1234 Howard Street.

88 5TH STREET, Old San Francisco United States Mint, Assessor's Block 3704, Lot 011, bounded by Mint Street on the north, 5th Street on the east, Mission Street on the south and Jessie Street on the west – Informational Presentation on a proposed project that would rehabilitate the existing historic structure into the City History Museum with secondary uses being retail, restaurant and offices. The existing building will be retained, and generally, the historic building envelope will not be expanded; however, additional square footage and an additional story will be added within the existing courtyard, and a glass roof would be installed over the court yard to protect the exhibits and activities below. The subject building was designated as San Francisco Landmark No. 236. It is zoned P (Public Use) District and is in a 40-X Height and Bulk District. The Old Mint constructed between 1869 and 1874, its history is has had various uses and has been vacant since 1994.
