PUBLIC COMMENT

Joel Shecter, Ocean Beach Historical Society: Requested consideration of the Doggie Diner Sign being made a landmark.

Diana Scott, Ocean Beach Historical Society: The Doggie Diner Sign has been moved to 45th Avenue & Sloat Blvd. on public land. Requested to have Doggie Diner sign listed on the LPAB work program to be nominated as a landmark designation.

REPORTS

1. STAFF REPORT AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Neil Hart, Chief of Neighborhood Planning:

i Provided an update on the Doggie Diner sign landmark designation. He requested that Mr. Shecter view the LPAB website to obtain Preservation Bulletin #5 – Landmark Historic Preservation procedures to help move forward the Doggie Diner Sign.

i He announced that this would be his last meeting as the preservation coordinator. Mark Luellen has been selected to fill preservation coordinator's position.

The LPAB heard item # 4 next.

It was moved by Board Member Kotas (seconded by Cherny) to hear item #4 – case #2005.0574A next – 31 Alta Street. The vote was unanimous.

Certificate(s) of Appropriateness

4. 2005.0574A (A. LIGHT: 415/558-6254)

31 ALTA STREET, south side between Montgomery and Sansome Streets. Assessor's Block 0106, Lot 018 – Request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to install a wooden gate to access a previously approved parking space, and to alter a portion of a second level balcony at the front façade of a three-story, wood frame house built in 1852 that is a contributor to the Telegraph Hill Historic District. The subject property is in an RH-3 Zoning District and a 40-X Height and Bulk District.

Preliminary Recommendation: Approval with possible conditions

Board Action:

It was moved by Board Member Martinez (seconded by Cherny) to approve the Certificate of Appropriateness with conditions that sponsor will work with planning staff on design of the gate to meet the Planning Department requirements for appropriate screening. The vote was unanimous.

2. PRESIDENT'S REPORT AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

She announced her attendance at a hearing in Sacramento regarding St. Bridgid's Church. They discussed the purposed legislation to exempt the church under the local landmark code.

She requested that the Commissioners review items for the next LPAB hearing will be two DEIR (1880 Mission and 3575 Geary Streets) and one National Register Nomination (Port of San Francisco).

She met with Supervisor Peskin and Director Macris regarding moving forward with the survey program for the City.

3. MATTERS OF THE BOARD

Bridget Maley

i She requested an update on the LPAB minutes. The last posted minutes are from June 2004.

i There was no Secretary of Interior Standards with case reports. In the future can the Secretary of Interior Standards be posted with the case on the LPAB website.

Robert Cherny

i He shared an article with the Board regarding demolishing old churches in Iowa. He announced that the mayor had convened a forum regarding the potential alterations to Civic Center, he requested that staff obtain more information.

Alan Martinez

i What is the next step to adopt the Preservation Element?

Presentation by Board Members Cherny and Martinez on the site visit to the Music Concourse.

Displayed a slide show of the Music Concourse from their June 15th site visit.
